The Complete Guide to Sugar Alternatives: Everything You Need to Know →Honey Garlic Shrimp with Jaca
Juicy, golden-seared shrimp tossed in a sticky honey-garlic glaze made with Jaca rare sugar instead of honey and sugar. Ready in 20 minutes, served over rice with fresh scallions and a squeeze of lime.
Ingredients
- 1½ pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- ⅔ cup Jaca rare sugar (replaces ⅓ cup honey at 2x)
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ¼ cup scallions, sliced
- 2 cups cooked white rice, for serving
- 4 large leafy lettuce leaves, for serving (optional)
Sweetener Used
⅔ cup Jaca rare sugar Allulose
Replaces: ⅓ cup honey
Instructions
- 1
In a medium bowl, whisk together the Jaca rare sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, and lime juice until smooth.
- 2
Place the shrimp in a large zip-top bag or bowl. Pour half the marinade over the shrimp, toss to coat, and refrigerate for 15 to 30 minutes. Reserve the remaining marinade.
- 3
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until the oil shimmers.
- 4
Remove the shrimp from the marinade and add them to the skillet in a single layer. Sear without moving for about 1 minute until the bottoms are golden brown.
- 5
Flip the shrimp, then pour in the reserved marinade. Toss with tongs and continue to sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until the shrimp are opaque and the glaze is sticky and caramelized.
- 6
Serve immediately over rice (and lettuce leaves if using). Garnish with sliced scallions and extra pan sauce.
- 7
This is a Jaca-adjusted healthier version — all the sticky sweetness of honey garlic shrimp with zero sugar spike.
Pro Tips
- Pat your shrimp dry before searing for the best golden crust.
- Jaca caramelizes beautifully — don't be afraid to let the glaze get dark and bubbly.
- Swap lime for lemon if you prefer, or add a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat.
- This also works great with chicken thighs — just increase the cook time to 6-8 minutes per side.
